Chitwan Medical College in Bharatpur, Nepal

Chitwan Medical College Teaching Hospital, in Bharatpur, Nepal is affiliated to Tribhuvan University and is a first ISO certified Medical College. This private medical college in Bharatpur is a 750-bed teaching hospital. All kinds of facilities are available for the treatment of patients. Several fields of bachelor studies such as in medicine, dentistry, public health are taught here.

Academic Programs

Chitwan Medical College was started by a group of visionary Nepalese doctors led by Prof Dr Harish Chandra Neupane, at a place which would provide quality education to the medical students and more importantly, provide affordable and quality health care services to a large population of Chitwan.

CMC was established with a vision that it would be an institute, where any aspirant could make it the destination of choice for the study of any branch of health related science. The academia started with the commencement of Bachelor in Nursing (BN) program in 2007, which was followed by B.Sc. Nursing program in 2008. Intake of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) started from 2009 with an intake of 80 students.

In the subsequent years, several other bachelor and master level academic programs were started: such as Bachelor’s in Medical Laboratory Technology (BSc MLT), Bachelor’s in Medical Imaging Technology (BSc MIT), Bachelor in Dental Surgery (BDS), Bachelor’s in Pharmacy (B. Pharm) and Bachelor’s in Public Health (BPH), Master of Nursing (MN), Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Clinical Microbiology (MSc Clinical Microbiology), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Surgery (MS) and various Fellowship programs. The institution now boasts of more than 800 undergraduate students. The college facility is located at Kailashnagar, Chitwan (approximately 8 km away from Bharatpur city, where the hospital is located)

Fellowship programs have been started at CMC in an effort to increase the number of specialist trainings of the medical professionals in Nepal, based on competency-based training modules.

Every fellowship program at CMC is a continuous 3 year-long program awarded by Lincoln University, Malaysia (based on the Memorandum of Understanding between Tribhuvan University and Lincoln University). This program has been recognized by and registered in Nepal Medical Council (NMC) as equivalent to the sub-specialty postgraduate educational programs (DM/MCh Program). The first program started was Fellowship in Pulmonology and Critical Care Medicine in 2017, and then 2 other fellowships have been started from 2018: Fellowship in Cardiology and Fellowship in Hepato-pancreatico-biliary surgery. The followed curriculum provides a structured educational and training experience necessary to achieve expertise in the relevant subject.

Intake and application
Generally in the months of April/May every year. The candidates are advised to follow-up the website for advertisements regarding application for the fellowship.

Eligibility

Tuition fees
For Nepalese: NRS. 50,000/annum (Admission fees not included)

For international candidates: 5000 USD/annum (excluding the admission fees)*

*with reference to fee structure of National Academy of Medical Sciences, Bir Hospital, Kathmandu, Nepal for similar specialist training program like DM/MCh

Stipend and allowance:

Basic: NPR 65000/- and night-duty allowance: NPR 3000/night (as of March 2019)
